Our Choirs
Homestead’s choir program is open to all students, regardless of musical experience. All choir classes meet the district, CSU, and UC fine arts requirements.
Join choir to be a part of our community, develop friendships, make lasting memories, and of course, immerse in beautiful choral music.
In class, students work to improve their individual singing ability and refine our collective presentation for each song. We perform at school and community events, as well as at festivals, exchange concerts, and singing tours. All choirs perform a wide variety of music including concert choral music, music from non-western cultures, and several forms of popular music – jazz, pop, musical theater, etc.
While the Treble and Bass choirs rehearse separately and perform much repertoire for each type of ensemble, they also combine for about 1/3 of their songs to form a full SATB "Mixed" choir.
Treble Choir
Treble Choir
Treble Choir is a 40+ voice choir of treble voices. This choir focuses on the pedigogical growth of the treble voice, voices that naturally shifts from chest to head voice in the range A4-C5. Treble choir repertoire reinforces their sense of unified sound. Each singer develops the skills of how to make their own sound by fitting their sound into the surround singer's sound.
Treble Chamber Choir
Treble Chamber Choir
Within the Treble Choir is a small auditioned group to perform advanced repertoire with only 1-3 singers per voice part. These singers receive feedback from Dr Morton, but rehearse independently of him most of the time, thereby developing skills of running their own rehearsals and working out their own group dynamics, leadership, and musical choices.
Bass Choir
Bass Choir
Bass Choir focuses on the pedigogical growth of the bass and tenor voice, voices that naturally shifts from chest to head voice in the range D4-F4, and have a greater distinction than treble voices in vocal character between falsetto and chest voice, and with it, different pedigogical issues when blending chest and head voice.

Retreat
Our first overnight trip! We spend a weekend at YMCA's Camp Campbell, learning and rehearsing music while also enjoying opportunities to form connections with each other over games, talent shows, and skits. In the past, we've also had the opportunity to try archery or axe-throwing, scale climbing walls, and make a mess with tie-dye. We do a lot during the retreat, and it's a highlight of the year for many choir students.

The choir retreat takes place a Camp Campbell, in the Santa Cruz mountains, about a 50min car drive from Homestead, though longer for a bus which we use to get there on Friday and back home on Sunday around 12:30pm.
Students stay in cabins with capacity up to 14 people. The younger students have a chaperone in their cabin, while some cabins of older students may not. Students eat together in the dining hall which always has acomodations for vegitarian, vegan, kosher, etc. Students list their eating alergies and restrictions on a form that we provide to camp as an extra check that all will be acomodated.

Starting in 2026, we will take a bus up to camp on Friday during the school day. For students who feel that they absolutely can't miss their end-of-the day classes on Friday or have after school sports or events, we will have a few parent drivers help transport students up.
For some students, the retreat is their first time away from home and is a big step in their growing up process. The chaperones and older students help keep an eye of for all of the students to make sure they are doing OK and check in with anyone who isn't. All of our activities are done as a group, and students must always be in groups of 3 or more or with a chaperone, even if its a short trip like 'just running up to the cabins to get my water bottle'.
The retreat is really about building deeper connections- all within the context of getting some intense rehearsing done. So much clicks and solidifies at the retreat, both socially and musically, so we ask all students to participate.

In the first semester, we present the Major Works Concert. For this concert, we sing a number of pieces composed by an artist that convey a central theme about the world. Additionally, this concert features the Homestead Orchestra, who play alongside the Chamber Choir to further accentuate the cultural importance of our concert.
Holiday Choir
Holiday Choir
It's that time of the year! Ornaments are strung, shops are full, and everyone is looking for presents under the tree! Meanwhile, Homestead Choir spreads holiday cheer by singing Christmas carols and other pep songs at various locations such as Ghirardelli Square, the Sunnyvale and Cupertino Tree lightings, as well as for the students and staff of Homestead High School.

Singing Valentines
Love and friendship bloom as the choir gets ready to sing for Homestead High School! Every year, A choir prepares a small set of songs to sing door to door for each class on campus. We start selling singing grams a couple of weeks before, and during the week of Valentine's Day, we pick a day and sing to each gram's receiver in their class. Whether people want to appreciate a classmate or embarrass their friends, it's the perfect opportunity to spread kindness and Valentine's Day love!

In the second semester, Homestead Choir brings the Spring Concert to the stage. Similar to the Major Works Concert, we usually learn new songs for the semester that are focused around a relevant theme and perform those for our audience at Homestead. This concert happens around April or May, and highlights our journey as a choir in a year. Additionally, we officially celebrate our seniors who are graduating high school with flowers and posters signed by their fellow classmates.
Spring Tour
Spring Tour
Every year, Homestead Choir takes a tour to showcase the songs we have learned in the semester. Some of our past tours have been to New York, Disneyland, Seattle, and even Costa Rica! In this trip, we combine performing and fun through various activities such as recording at a professional studio, or watching a Broadway Show. It is also a great way to get to know your classmates better by spending valuable time together. The Spring Tour is considered one of the highlights of being in choir, and any choir member will tell you that it's a guaranteed good time!
End of Year Celebration
End of Year Celebration
Our last hangout of the school year! This bittersweet event is our informal goodbye to the seniors, as well as a celebration of the choir's achievements of the year. We recognize the growth and friendships we've built with the seniors through videos and yearbook signings, as well as karaoke and nice food. This celebration is usually organized by the underclassmen, and through this event, the choir can remember the wonderful memories they created and have fun together before the school year ends.
